Origin of the Cossacks

The Cossack nation had their origins from the Slavic and Turkic peoples. In order to escape the serfdom imposed on them, they left their towns and villages and made their to the Dnieper River where they settled during the 15th century. The word Cossack means free people.

Distance, however, did not prevent them from being constantly attacked by Tartars and Turks. As a consequence, they developed strategies to defend themselves and became the finest and fiercest horsemen ever known.

The Development of the Cossack Nation…

People’s taxes are not meant to save speculators and entrepreneurs.

I think we have all grown up with the idea that business owners and entrepreneurs are entitled to the profit and their proportionally large salaries because they are taking the risk of losing the capital they invested.

Since the 2008/9 financial debacle, however, business has been changing their story. Now, it seems, that government must use the taxes of we-the-people to rescue business because otherwise business would have to close their doors. …

So often, we have most of what it takes, but one teeny weeny bit is missing!

Three very simple words — I didn’t know — summed up my failure at things that I attempted but didn’t achieve. I didn’t have sufficient information to apply my skill in the right places at the right time in the right way.

There were gaps in my knowledge that led to that failure. I may, for instance, have known how to write a good article, but I certainly didn’t know where to sell them. And while I may have been an excellent worker in many of my jobs, I didn’t realize that making friends at the office was part of…

My late father lived in Berlin and attended the university where Einstein was teaching.

My late father, in terms of today’s world, would have been an intellectual giant. Of course, he was an intellectual giant, but growing up with him as just ‘Daddy,’ I never knew that then. I know it now.

Before I tell you the story of how my father tried to save Einstein, I’m going to share one of his anecdotes about Einstein’s farewell speech. Here it is — in his own words.

The poison of Nazi surroundings has etched indelible grooves into our soul. …

I wish I hadn’t been so anxious not to impose on people, and I wish I had responded.

In late 2003, I was holed up in a hostel in the Gaslamp district in San Diego. I had been in America some five months, and it wasn’t going well. I was feeling really down. Because I’m a reader, I signed up at the local library, and one of the books I took to read was David Baldacci’s ‘the christmas train.’

In all of the misery that I was feeling, that book just lifted my spirits. I thought that, perhaps, there could be a happy ending to my life. …

I’ve been in South Africa for nearly six years, and I much prefer Europe.

I’ll be 70 this year, and, for the first time in my life, I’m scared of relocating. I did a count the other day. I’ve moved house 44 times, moved cities 26 times, moved countries 10 times, and this will be my 5th inter-continental move. And, of course, I’ve traveled all over the place, but I’m not counting that. So why am I scared? And if I’m scared, why am I doing it?

I think it’s to do with my age, but even as I turn 70 this year, I’m fortunate to be in good health and to look nearly…

Why I Remain on FaceBook

When Google Plus sent out invites on June 28th, 2011, I happily accepted and didn’t go near fb for many years. Google Plus was quite simply the best social networking site ever created, but as the years passed, the good stuff was withdrawn, and with that, so went the people. Still, I stayed to the bitter end.

I tried various like sites like Mewe, etc. but they didn’t work for me. Firstly, everybody on G+ had different ideas of what they were looking for, and so we went our different ways. Mostly, though, we went back to fb. …

Bill Gates sure knows how to suck it out of his thumb. His solution to climate change is to find new technologies and for all countries to cooperate. He also says that business must own up to how much their manufacturing processes are impacting climate change. I’m ROTFLMAO.

We need Bill Gates to write a book to tell us all this? Quite apart from the fact that we don’t have the time to develop all these new technologies, that companies most certainly aren’t going to own up, and that all this has been said about ten gazillion times by the…
