You might simply have pointed out that Ev Williams, the owner of the this site, started Medium expressly to avoid advertising. He saw how advertising slanted what publications could and couldn't publish, and he started Medium as an experiment to see how publications could survive without advertising.

I take it that if they can't, Ev Williams will just close down Medium.
