You just have been born poor, because that's not what I remember. My grandparents had a partyline, but then they also had no running water or toilets/bathroom or electricity either.
In the home I grew up in, we definitely had a phone. (I'm 70). and I was way off in South Africa.
And, of course, there were hair driers. :) Maybe you just didn't have one, but they were definitely available.
The boomers are the worst generation out. Yes, they shifted the conversation alright. We could have done something about climate change. Instead we eliminated the mixed economic system and implemented neoliberalism which has increased poverty for many, and made the richer richer than than god.
My generation wants meaning, appreciation and connection? Good grief, not thepeople I know. Love? Of course, Generally I think we've grown out of that delusion.
