You elected your politicians.

When I arrived in 2003, I was bewildered by several things.

  1. Your technology for the web was behind that of the EU.
  2. The facts I had known for a lifetime were either unknown in the USA, or they were so twisted that America felt like an alternative universe. It took me 10 years to realize Americans were profoundly ignorant in many respects.
  3. Americans had a sense of entitlement that I had never encountered in any other country in the world. They expected everything to be served to them. Nobody was allowed to make them uncomfortable or say no to them. The sense of entitlement was so strong that ir clashed with reality.
  4. Americans believed in gods, laws of attraction, and the biggest load of bullshit I had ever heard in my life. Coming from a secular society in the EU, I was stunned that anyone in the first world could believe in fairytales.
  5. I joined a dating site within about 6 months of arrving in the States. After 3 months, I decided I would never get involved with an American man. I found them vulgar and unsophisticated. Five minutes after meeting them I was asked if I was a first date or a third date girl. I had to ask what they talking about. I also was accustomed to dressing in a sophisticated, elegant way. It appears American men think if cleavage is showing, you must be sexually available. I was disappointed.
  6. In time, I leart there was no labor law, mandatory paid leave, no decent public transport, no reasonably priced medical services or government based medical services, and more. It was a shock to discover that I had come from the real first world to a country with 3rd world imfrastructure.
  7. I realized that I had bought into Hollywood hype — that America was nothing like I thought it was. It was a valuable lesson.

I left — went back to the UK. And that was that.
