Yet I grew up in this system, and so I did not think there was anything exceptional about America. This separation of powers is the norm in most countries. South Africa also has a trilateral system - set up in the early 20th century. According to scholars, the constitution after apartheid, is superior to the current American one.

No, the British system did not create democracy in 1215. What it created was the start of the king being the absolute rules. The old world did not have the benefit of learning from other countries as the new world did.

If one looks at Estonia, they never did analogue phone systems. They went straight to digital (VOIP), and they created Skype. They were able to do that because the country was so poor when the USSR collapsed that they had no telephone system.

When a new country comes along, of course, they take the experience and knowledge of other countries and use that. So did South Africa when it lost apartheid. That's why the South African constitution is superior to the American constitution.

That said, as a result of the old world having so much more experience in government, they have not desolved into the violent, racist mess that America has. For all the foresight of the 'founding fathers,' it made no difference, because the country is still hellbent on destroying itself. It doesn't have the experience and the history needed to correct itself.

Interestingly, most of America's Nobel prize winners are from people eduated in other countries, immigrating to America, and then using American money to propel themselves to a point where they win Nobel prizes.

Again, my point is that the knowlege comes from other countries.

Although I didn't say so exactly in my articles, I think what I was trying to say, and this discussion with you has brought it out, is that America's obsession with it being special in some way, floors me.

It obtained its knowlege from other cultures, and it was able to do so, because starting with a clean slate is much easier than changing an old system. It also had fewer people which is a helluve lot easier to deal with.
