Yes, you are missing the point, or you don't want to know the point. As I said in my story, beauty is a touch subject. Nobody wants to admit that there are actually universal perspectives on what is beautiful. The evidence is there.
About a decade ago, a study showed that babies responded positively with smiles (in many different countries and cultures) to strangers with large eyes and high cheekbones. They had a negative response to strangers that didn't. These babies were about two weeks old, so there was no influence.
Also, there are cities like Cape Town in South Africa that repeatedly win first place for the most beautiful city in the world. There are many, many places that are regarded universally as beautiful. I will name you some.
The Alhambra build by the Moors more than a thousand years ago in Granada, Spain.
Versailles, built by Louis XIV about 400 years ago.
People like Sophia Loren, Liz Taylor, etc. Hollywood always selects people who have large eyes, high cheekbones, and a particular body shape. If these people were not universally regarded as beautiful, people wouldn't flock to their movies. Same goes with men like Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Lawrence Oliveira, Elvis Presley, etc. There are norms. It doesn't mean that people who look slightly different are not regarded as beautiful by many.
Nobody is forcing people to have the same standards. The point is that if everyone focused on making their own particular place beautiful according to their own perception of beauty, it still wouldn't be a dump. There wouldn't be places falling into disrepair. There wouldn't be garbage in the street. There wouldn't be rivers full of toxins, etc.
