Yes. Terrible culture. I'm glad I spent 11 years in America. I learnt a lot. But in the end, I could not relate to the people and the thing you called a work ethic. To me, it was nothing more than a version of slavery, and the dog-eat-dog society was not something I saw as humane.
Right now, I have a friend who got covid and now he has cancer and hasn't been given long to live. I am devastated. He is faced with Hobson's choice. He either continues work while he has chemotherpay because he needs the medical insurance, or he has no income.
