Yes, I'm African. because I was born in Africa. And Americans who are black are not African - in one sense.

Africa is a continent, and if you are born on that continent, you are African.

However, African has also come to mean people who are black, so it's disingenous to claim that African Americans are not African because they are not born in Africa.
