WTF are people looking at social media for data about their world? News? Or anything other than just keeping in touch with friends?

I love my Facebook app. However, I have never 'liked' anything. I don't click on ads. And I don't add people I don't know. It is strictly for my friends - people whom I've known in real life - some for more than 60 yars. I don't see them in real life because I tend to move around world - I've been a nomad since 1970.

The web enables us to have multiple sources of news and data. Science papers and extracts are there for the taking. When 10 different universities in 10 different countries doing similar research all reach the same conclusion, it's statistically unlikely to be a conspiracy.

When news sources in different languages, on differnt sides of the political divide, more or less tally up the same story, it's unlikely to be anything but the truth. However, when the stories are different, then one begins to dig deeper.

All these tools are available to people. I use them on a daily basis.

So I've come to the conclusion that most people are just limited. They don't think, and more importantly, if they don't think, are they capable of thinking? It's been my question for some time.
