That said, last month when I received an email saying that I had been selected to win $500 for being one of the 1000 writers on Medium, I didn't believe it for a moment, as my figures didn't say that at all. I immediately checked the email from where it was sent, and as that was legitimate, I went to my Stripe account.

Most people don't check emails, so that is correct. However, there are better ways of establishing who needs further training. That is unkind and in poor taste.
