With regard to writing, my point was exactly that - that writers do well on a content writing site for four reasons.
1. They write well
2. Got in early
3. Were promoted at some point by the site
4.Goigle rewards massive sites with traffic - it does not send traffic to writers unless someone speficalky searches for them.
It's taken me a while to figure that the best place for writers are sites where there is high readership. And, of course, readers are not willing to support multiple writers individually. Not a chance in hell that I would subscribe to an individual writer.
At some point, another site will open up. If Elon Musk hadn't been the boss man if Twitter, I would have looked at that!
