With regard to Hollywood movies being the creator of the rugged individual, I never interpreted it that way. I just thought that when individuals went out to eradicate evil, this was what all people do. That said, I'm probably not thinking of movies between the 30s and 60s.

I do know that I can no longer read books and watch movies where Americans rescue the world. It's just not part of my reality anymore.
