Why not? What you and many others are getting confused about is the fact that money is just a representation of goods. Why should a handful of people hoard all the goods while other starve.

If a living page is paid to everybody every month, they can only buy so many goods. Plus, if machines, robots, etc. are manufacturing the goods, it’s not as if some people are working themselves to death while others are lazing in the sun.
