Why I’m Beginning to Love Substack

And the things I don’t like about it.

When I was 21 and quite tanned! :) Own photo.

I haven’t really written on Medium for about six week, except for one short story. Interestingly, I don’t miss it. I was always so tense on this platform. There were so many things I couldn’t say because it was against the rules, and the rules were drawn across political lines, so any objective analysis was impossible.

It seemed that Medium was so wrapped up in hurt feelings that objectivity and facts were lost to it, so every time I had something to say, I had to chose my words carefully. That made me tense when I was writing here.

Then there were the constant changes. One day you’d be doing well according to the rules, and the next, your investment in writing had lost all its value, its traffic, and its pay.

Of course, I understand that Medium has to keep afloat, but the payment model doesn’t work. Writers, especially good writers, regardless of what they say to be socially acceptable and politically correct, want to be paid.

So, for me, the choice was simple. If I wasn’t going to get paid, I would rather write on a site that had no rules than one which had — especially when it came to political opinion.

I didn’t like the Substack model for the following reasons
