When Politics and Governance are Misaligned…

Politicians are no longer focused on good governing, and there’s a reason.

There was a time when a politician’s job was to govern the country. This had more to do with administration. In other words, there were things to be done — bridges had to be built and roads taken care of, regulations were created so that nobody took advantage of anyone else, and such like.

That is no longer the case, and this is the main reason why nothing gets done.

I list the reasons below.

The underlying value system of the world changed

The zeitgeist of the last quarter of the 20th century, and the first two decades of the 21st century has been about status and money. Alongside that, there has been a major switch from essentialism to non-essentialism. To put that in a nutshell, everything becomes changeable. There is no definite right or wrong. There is no label or definition for anything. No politician can be expected to live according to a code…
