When my father got kicked out of his attorney office in the German court in 1933, it was an eye opener. He then joined a Jewish newspaper. On the day he joined, the editor was arrested. In 1936, he was away in Switzerland. My grandmother telegrammed him not to come back because his entire newspaper was just down and all the journalists etc were sent to Auschwitz.

What is going on in America now is very similar to what went on in Germany in the 30s.

My father said that they tried to warn the Jews what was happening. They said, 'Nothing is happening. We are Germans first and Jews second."
