What a load of hogwash. If one wants to be a writer, one has to accept several things. (I've been published for 60 years on three continents).

1. It is poorly paid. It has always been poorly paid, and it's only a very small percentage at the top who make a lot of money.

2. The people who make that kind of money are all gifted and talented. Very few people have that degree of talent.

3. Luck has a great deal to do with it. You can be a really shitty writer but hit the big time beause you had the right topic at the right time and ran into the right person.
