Well, I've been in Ireland four months now, and my experience is different to yours.
I don't find it multicultural or multiracial at all. Then, again, I'm South African, and South Africa has 11 official languages, plus I have lived in London (10 languages spoken on each corner in Oxford street), and in the States, so diversity and multiculturalism is probably dependent on what one is accustomed to. To be honest, I like Cork just as it is!
The people are, indeed, kind. They are also helpful, straight to the point, and one can get things done. That is something I have not experienced in a very, very long time - not in the UK, not in Germany, not in Spain, not in Portugal, not in the States, and not anywhere else I have lived. Things have gone to hell in a lot of countries during the past 30 or 40 years.
I'm so thank ful for for the cool and cold in Ireland. If I never see another hot day, again, it's okay with me. I'm tired of 42 degrees in the Med or in Texas or in South Africa. I'm done with heat. This morning the rain is pouring outside. Oh, blessed rain and blessed cool. :)
There is, of course, little accommodation to have, and it's very expensive. I got lucky. I don't know how much longer I will be lucky, but I'm here to stay. :)
