Well, I suppose it depends on when those stores were started, doesn't it? My late father started a business in the late 1940s with relatively little money, and it was highly successful. It's also true that the world's economic system was a mixed economy whereas today it is laissez faire capitalism (neoliberalism).

Shame on you for believing something that was true 50 to 70 years ago is still true today. You need to actually read the research.
