Well, I guess it depends on why you think it was the right thing to do. I did a lot of research as well, and I think it was absolute madness.
I don't know how old you are, but I grew up when the British Empire was still the British Empire - when South Africa was part of the Union, and it's currency was pounds, shillings and pence.
But it was giving up its colonies and was losing its clout. At that point, Thatcher joined the EU, and the might of the EU mitigated the loss of the Empire. Consequently, the UK still retained power and influence.
However, it's been nearly 50 years since then, and I don't think the UK even begins to realize how insignicant and useless they are without the EU.
I don't know what you mean by shortages in countries in Europe, but I've been here 6 months - 3 in Germany and 3 in Portugal, and there are no shortages.
I'm also curious about what you mean by federalist, and what you mean by you're just not that sort of country.
