Well, here's the thing. Nobody tells you why you're learning all that stuff. I did 5 years Latin. What for? I had to read really boring literary books. Why?
I had to study endless poetry, Shakespeare, various famous books, all of which bored me to hell. The reason they bored me is that English teachers and professors are using English literature to focus on human issues.
Human issues have no business being in English classes. If they read exciting stories, the world would learn to read again.
If they want to teach human issues, teach them in a sociology class or a philosophy class or biology class or a psychology class, but English? Why?;
I deeply resent the way that my school years set me up for failure for the rest of my life. I walked out of school not knowing a single thing. The only thing I was good for was more studying which I refused to do.
What is wrong with teaching students how to cook, clean house, play the piano, fix an electric plug, fly a plane, shoot a rifle, manage money, explain the stock market, paint a house, learn how to code a computer, etc?
