Until the advent of the industrial revolution, mankind worked a 20 hour work week. That is noted in the British Domes Day book and French historical records. Playboys and the uber rich have never had a problem with not working. Nor have the British aristocracy where working was viewed with contempt. The British upper classes never gained their respect from working.

In fact, it was Prince Philip who saw the impending downfall of the monarchy who said that if the monarchy wished to be retained, then the they must start contributing in some way. It's a very recent idea that work gives one a sense of achievemnent. Internationally, between 75% and 95% of workers hate their jobs. I passionately hated every single job I ever had. It most certainly never gave me any meaning.
