Unfortunately, in order to become financially sustainable, Medium switched its writing platform to people who want to write - not to readers.

There are four types of people who are leaving th platform. The first lot are those who actually want to read articles that are NOT about writing, and are of the same quality that are in magazines like Time, The Atlantic, the New York Times, the Guardian, etc.

The second lot are those who previously made money because people didn't have to read them in order to make money. They could just clap, and then peoeple would make money.

The third lot are those who are now in competition on a more level playing field - sort of. Medium appears only to be distributing woke pieces and the kind of pieces that have (what they think) a wider audience. The fact that you and I think they are not accurate is besides the point. Not that one's work being distributed adds any more reads.

The fourth type of person are one's that come here for five minutes, expected to take the world by storm, and didn't. They moved on rapidly.

The bottom line is that the only articles that will now do well on this platform (I think) are those that cling to woke, those that are more serious and factual, and those who game the system in some way.

That's about it.
