U-Ming, as a professional writer, both you and I know to write about things that people can relate to, so I had no doubt when I wrote that piece that there are a good few that can relate to it. So don't feel alone.

I have given it a great deal of thought, and I think that what has happened is that people in officialdom and business are overwhelmed with work and listening to people. They simply cannot hear anymore, so they half listen and they don't want to help and can't help and won't help.

Business and officialdom insists on being understaffed. The former for profit and the latter because cut taxes means less money to hire staff.

There is also a matter of anger. I've been looking (and I have not reached a conclusion yet), but I think that people are highly fed up with immigrants and migrants not of their own culture.

People don't want constant complications in their lives. And people from different cultures complicate it to the extent that they are more work. I remember for much of my early life, I hated listening to people with accents because I found them difficult to understand. (I now know it was partially due to an auditory processing disorder.)

We're all being stressed to breaking point. I can observe and acknowledge that I no longer want to speak to people because I feel helpless at their lack of assistance and their continuing resistance. From their side, I also acknowledge that they are overworked, and they are sick and tired of having to deal with people for whom their system was not built for.

All communities design systems to deal with their own culture. Every time someone from a dfiferent culture arrives, it's an exception which takes more work.

These are observations. With this in mind, I've realized that living in a country which does not speak English and which is not close to my own culture is not a good idea. It's an even worse idea when we are going to be facing the fallout of climate change, political instability, and an increasing number of pandemics.

Oh, yes, and I have no solutions.
