Totally bizarre. People used to ask me what nationality I was. I would say "Dual German/South African.
They would then say something like "Oh, I'm German." I would ask them where they were from. They would say something like San Fran or New York.
It would eventually transpire than they are of German extraction, i.e. 5 ancestors down the line.
Most of us from other countries find that quite bizarre.
