Today, frustrated about all the people who moaned about what they were earning, I started doing some detailed research.
Firstly, from the figures, I probalby vary between the top 3% and the top 1%. I know that I don't have a lot of followers, but I do have a lot of subscribers. Also, this is not my only inome. That extends to both ko-fi and Medium, and I don't want to say anthing about it. But I can live for the next few years from it.
What I discovered is that most people - the vsat majority earn under $5 per month. That makes sense, because if they didn't, then Medium wouldn't make a profit.
The next highest number earn under $50 (more than half), then between $50 and $100 (about 10%), then above $100, about %, above $500 3% and above $1000 1%.
That puts a whole different persepctive on this. It has shocked the hell out of me.
This month, I had decided not to write on Medium. In my third week, I had to. It's an addition. One week's articles earned me more than $500.
I had always thought this very little. Now I realize that I'm probably up there with a small percentage.
But, no, you can't earn a living on Medium unless you are Umair Haque or Jessica Wildfire and a few others.
