Although I can never see myself being close friends with anyone religious (any religion) or a conservative (they have done too much harm internationally), I still realize that they have as much right on this planet as I have. Therefore I would never legislate against them, etc.
I would give them space, as I would expect them to give me space.
I come back to what Hanah Arrendts said about the banality of evil - that some people just don't think about the long term outcome of their actions, decisions, and beliefs. She pointed out that Eichman, the man responsibile for Auschwitz was not an evil man and he did not hate Jews.
He was simply given an instruction and he carried it out. He did not think further than that.
On both sides, and I am definitely neither woke nor alt-right, there is there is very little depth of thought of outcomes.
