This has nothing to do with writing. This is, I'm sad to say, a need for the ego to be gratified, and, unhappily, most people who say they want to be writers, actually long for the fame,etc.

Interestingly, enough, I only write to earn a living, and I'm a good enough writer to have many accolades during the 60 years I have been published. I couldn't care less about whether people read me or not. I remember, in the 70s, peers used to come up to me and say "I saw your piece in the paper." I never responded. I couldn't understand why it was worth mentioning.
