There is no such thing as a principled Conservative - either in the USA or the UK.

Some years ago, I wrote an article why I wouldn't date a Republican. My primary objection was the lack of ethics by Conservatives. It is impossible to be conservative and to have ethics.

There is no way that one can support social-Darwisnism (which is essentially what Conservatism is), and claim to treat all men equally.

There is no common ground between ethical people and unethical people. So both sides must have a few ethics??? It doesn't work that way.
