There is a difference between something being poorly written and something being great prose and good storytelling. Her English was reasonably good, but it’s not the work of a great writer.

Of course, if you define ‘great writer’ as someone who writes about the human condition (which is what modernism and literary writing is about), then you may well think she writes well. I, on the other hand, go with the fact that great writing is when everybody wants to read it.
