There is a difference between someone who is educated and someone who has a qualificatiin. Unfortunately, the two have become muddled.

One can have a four year degree and be semiliterate. According to a study I read some ten years ago in California, 95% of students at a 4 year university could not write a grammatical sentence.

According to various official sites inAmerica, 54% of Americans write and read at a grade 6 level. That's the level of an 11 year old.

Learning to write properly is the result of many factors - being exposed as a child to people who speak correctly, been taught in the first four or five years of schooling to write properly, reading three or four books a week from an early age, etc.

An educated human being speaks several languages, can write to a publishable standard, can place any country on a map knows world history, has an understaning of the scientific method as well as a basic knowledge of the sciences - geology, chemistry, biology, paleontoly, physics, etc.

One does not become educated through college. One becomes educated over a period of time by reading extensively, through life long learning, through traveling, etc.
