Why didn’t someone tell me when I was young?

It’s a question I have often asked. Why aren’t young people told by the old the many lies that they are taught when they are young. When you are old, you realize them. It’s a pattern that continually plays out.
Here’s what I know now, that I wish I had known when I was young. Knowing them would have made an immense difference in my life.
- There is no god. Had I known this, I would not have spent a lot of my life sacrificing my good years because I thought Jesus wanted me to be last and to turn the other cheek. Nor would I have ‘honored’ my mother when she abused me for 42 years. Nor would I have become involved with Christian fundamentalists and stopped reading and stopped dating. I lost my life because of the faulty belief that there was a god.
- People lie all the time. They lie in order to advance themselves. They lie in order to protect themselves. Men lie to get sex or to obtain power and money. Women lie to get money or get married. They think it’s okay to lie. The only thing is that those lies are not a good thing for the people being lied to. Telling people that they shouldn’t lie, and then omitting to tell them that other people do, is misleading.
