The thing is that in order to negotiate each side needs to want something that the other is willing to give. i don't see how a side that is unwilling to give up pro-life would be happy to compromise in some way with a side that is pro-life, and visa versa.

The differences are too intense. I would agree with you that the broad pronouncements ignore essential interests.

I have come to the conclusion that these behaviour (more so on the right) are the result of extensive brainwashing and indoctrination, and these kind of people cannot be reasoned with.
