That's not quite accurate. The first vaccines had a 95% preventation rate. Only 5% of those people exposed got it. With the arrival of Omicron, because the vaccine wasn't designed for Omicron, the efficy dropped to about 50%.
There are several problems with gettting Covid (I follow the top scientists and read the abstracts).
1. A lot of people die within 6 months of getting it. It aggravates other diseases of illnessees within the body. So while one does not die of Covid, Covid increases your chances of dying of something else.
2. A high percentage of people get Long Covid - even if their illness was mild. Recent studies show that those who have Epsom Barr virus in their system (I do) tend to get Long Covid. If you read the experiences of those who have it, it pretty much stuffs up your life forever.
3. Covid impairs one's organs - it might be hear, or lungs, or kidneys. That means one lives a shorter life.
4. Covid shortens one's telomeres. So if telomeres pretty much ensured a longer life, with them shortened, it means a shorter life.
I've had two vaccines and a booster. I tend to space them out. In another few months, I will go and get the omicron one. I'm not that keen on doiing this, but at this point, to me, it's the lesser of the two evils.
I also continue to wear a mask wherever I go. Why? Because while politicians are saying this is over, it's not what scientists are saying. This thing can morph anytime to become deadlier. It normally takes a few weeks for people to realize that the death rate has increased and about a month for scientists to recognize a new variant. I don't want to be walking around without a mask...
it's airborne. That's why everybody on cruise ships get it.
