That really depends on how you call writers. If you're calling everybody who wants to write - 84% of Americans - writers, then it's simply not possible for everybody to succeed or earn.

The bottom line is that, for some time, there have been vastly few readers than there are writers. That's one of the reasons that Medium is now catering to writers - not readers.
