Speaking as a South African, divestment destroyed the country. By the time Africans took over, there was nothing left. The country was bankrupt.

Today, more tham 30 years after apartheid has ended, the country is torn apart with violence, bankruptcy, and poverty. And guess what?

The whites still have all the money, and the only blacks who have money are the ones who have either taken it, through corruption, from politcal connection, or they have made it through the money lamdering sceme with Palestine (weapons, etc) and other terrorist hot spots.

I am no friend of divestment. It doesn't affect the rich. They just transfer assets elsewhere so they can't be touched. For instance, both the goldmining and the diamond industries transferred their assets to London

Also, all the American oil companies that remained in South Africa did more than anyone else - they sent people of color to be trained in various occupations.

China has been selling up all her properties in America. They learnt. When she eventually invades Taiwan, there will be nothing to lose...

It's a shortsighted policy, and it wasn't effective in eradicating apartheid. In my opinion. Bill Cosby's TV show was. It was the firsst time white South Africans saw black educated people.
