So many problems I see here. One of the reasons I have never read any of the Medium magazines is that they are written by 'experts,' not by professional writers. There was a time when writers were given time to explore a topic, interview experts, and then write the article.
Today, in order to short cut that process, editors ask experts (who are not writers) to write the topic. To someone like me, who is a reader - a book a day, and about 5 hours spent each day reading - the articles don't read well. Nothing on this earth will get me to read something that is poorly written, no matter how much information it has. For that, I can read a univerity text book.
I've more or less stopped writing here now, and when my subscription expires, I will stop reading here. It's hell on earth to find something worth reading - it's all self-improvement, IT, and 'how to write.' Please me, writing requires intellect and a talent, and writers are not two a penny. I think there is something appalling in telling people that they can learn to write and then giving them the endless cliches to encourage them to do something that is beyond their ability.
