Simone, I am South African. My late mother was a founder member of the Black Sash. I went back to South Africa in late 2015 and left again early in 2021. I tried to leave in March, 2020, but was caught by lockdown.

I was born in Port Elizabeth, educated in Grahamstown, lived three times in Johannesburg and twice twice in Cape Town. My late mother was an Afrikaaner, and my late father was a German Jew - a holocaust survivor.

South Africa is a vile country, so please stop talking bullarkey. I was there when Mandela came to power. I was part of the fight to end apartheid, as were both my parents. I had my fingerprints taken in the mid 60s because I was part of Desmond Tutut's crew of helpers on a project.

I have never known a more racist and more unequal country than South Africa, and while I was born and educated there, and returned to live there twice, I will never do so again.

Fortunately, I had a German father (holocaust survivor) so I can live in Europe. Unlike you, I lived the history and was involved in the fight, and I recognise nonsense when I see it.
