She lied about her age and joined the army where she worked until 1945. After the war, she went back to school for two more years. Then she joined various hotel chains and worked there until 1951. Then she met my father and married.
She did not want to be a mother and insisted in working - she joined my father's company where she worked, eventually becoming the top sales person, b and alongside that eing the only woman in the country to join a number of male assoications.
She began to race stock cars (I was there one day when her car overturned), bred dogs for an increaesd income, became a numismatist and a philatelist, etc. She also became a fisherman. Can you imagine a woman in the 50s going fishing with men? And she was damned good at it.
When she divorced my father, she became a full time dog breeder which she was until the end of her life.
In every way, when things hit hard, she landed on her feet.
I've done the same thing.
I have no respect for those who are moaning about men who earn more than they do.
When I was a headhunter, I outperformed every male in the company. I've done that many times in many different jobs.
My mother never got opportunties. She did what she had to. I was without education, autistic, the victim of extreme abuse, living in a country that had sanctions, and I survived.
My late mother grew up in her a home where there was no electricity, no running water, were she was Afrikaans speaking (Afrikaaners were shunned in South Africa), etc.
What makes you think that the only way my mother could have done what she did was to 'have opportunities.'
No, what she needed was brains, guts, and effort. And an internal drive that never stops.
My sister was once sent a letter by an international courier company stating that, internationally, she was the only rep that never needed any motivation.
None of us had any 'opportunity. We simply looked for ways to do things.
When I wanted to immigrate to America, I stould no chance. I didn't even remotely qualify. So I set out to win the green card lottery, and I did. When I wanted to leave America and I had no money, I found a job in Scotland and worked in a really shitty job for six months until I had enough money to go to Spain.
One does what it takes. Again, I have no time for women who think they aren't getting anywhere because 'it's men.'
For the record, most men dont' earn the same as other highly paid men either.
