Sad to say, when I first immigrated to America, the thing I heard consistently from other immigrants was that Americans didn't know how to be friends.

I met several guys who had been there between 30 and 40 years, and while they might have been financially prosperous, friends, they did not have.

I think, when you live in a society as competitive as America, when it's dog eat dog, nobody can just give for the sake of giving, accept regardless. Everybody has to measure up to some sort of social standard.
