Russel, that has been the fundamental difference between our writing. I write from the perspective of a deep understanding of ethics - evidence based cause and effect that will result in the greater good.
You are right that it become murky for most people. It is based on degree of intellect. That is why some people are better at it and others.
Of course, we are human, and can only do this to a certain extent, but I think we can certainly improve our systems, if were take outcomes into consideration. With AI to help us, I think we can do a lot better than we are now.
The Pew Research study was done only with Christianity, and it is certainly losing followers. However, Islam, while Islam loses followers, it is also gaining (about the same number it loses).
The current moral measuring stick for the young is between the oppressed and the oppressor.
I would welcome another writer who looked at systems that use ethics as a measuring stock. Our current economic system is unethical. :)
