Religion was abolished in both the USSR and China.

That said, I suppose I put that too strongly. Let's go with the spirit of my argument.

If we do not teach children to pray in schools, and if we tax all religious institutions, so that they only have running costs, etc. they will gradually disappear. It's more that the extreme practices, like going out onto the streets, and trying to convert people will become illega. A private belief in god will not be eliminated.

Then, let's take the money from the taxes, put it all into one huge fund, and that money, each year is used to build homes for the poor, feed the hungry, etc.
