Recylcing doesn't work. And the last people I would trust to recycle is the business community. Recycling also doesn't get rid of the toxic mess that results from initial production.
What is it that wouldn't work about UBI? Of course, business will not work, but business is what we have to get rid of - for-profit business, anyway. It is destroying the world.
Let's talk about what an economy is. An economy is any system of production and distribution. We have been in a state of over-production since the 60s. We have landfills that cover enormous areas. Andd they are highly destructive to the environment.
Nobody needs yellow rubber ducks, a new i-phone every two years, or a new pair of jeans every year. We can do without all of that.
I recall, in the 50s and 60s, when we were basically producing enough, media thought that we would all work 4 or 5 hours per week, but then the yuppie culture took over in the 70s and 80s, and neoliberalism was born - profit at all costs.
Yes, it's going to be a different system. It's not going to be a world dominated by for-profit business. I totally agree with you that UBI will ruin that. Just as the pandemic allowed people to destress enough and think enough to realize that they had had a gutful of working of psychopaths, so once people don't have to work in horrendous, stressful conditions, will make them prefer to stay home.
Will things still get produced? Absolutely. I have continued to work and produce throughout my life for either no pay or very little pay. Many, many people work for pennies. Many people do voluntary work.
Please tell me what, exactly, you think isn't going to work. How do you think it isn't going to work out. I'm genuinely confused.
