Rabbi Weiss is a Hasidic Jew. They are nuts. Ran into them while living in London. Their stupidity scared the hell out of me. They believe that when the Messiah comes, he will restore Jerusalem, and, therefore, the current state of Israel is outside of God's will.
Of course, as a hardcore atheist, I totally reject that. My support for Israel rests on a few pillars.
1. The Jews have been persecuted and genocided for 2000 years as a result of Catholic teaching that the Jews murdered god. No Christian country was ever going to let them out of the ghettos or stop the inquisitions. They needed a place to call their own.
2. In terms of demographic, the Jews were the dominant group in Israel until 400 AD - that's about 3000 years. Then, the dominant group for the next 700 years were Christians. Thereafter, the dominant group were Muslims for 600 years. You can check these statistics on wiki and elsewhere. Besides that, Israel has been associated with Jews for 5000 years. It is not a Muslim country. I think if anyone has a right to it, it is the Jews.
3. More important than the above two is simply the fact that if Hamas (70% of Palestinians in Gaza support Hamas), then the west is finished. There will be immediate uprisings in EU countries and elsewhere. There are reasons Poland won't let them in. There is a reason that China has burnt down something like 3000 mosques. It is only western liberals who lead with their feelings of compassion and empathy. They can't see the wood for the trees. I support Israel, because Israel must win, in order to give the West and Europe time to regroup.
