Please tell me how I am profiteering. The people who say this are just jealous that some of these writers have a huge following, and they don't.

For instance, Jan Rapan has 62 followers. He was probably expecting that people were going to fall all over his writing and that didn't happen. So now he wants to find an excuse for why no one wants to read his writing.

I don't write to influence other people. I write in order to get things out of my head, otherwise I can't move on. And I write to earn a living. Unlike a lot of other people here, I am a professional writer, published for 60 years, and I only write reality. The fact that reality is damned depressing doesn't mean I must avoid writing about it.
