Our experience was obviously different. American friendship is not the same as friendship elsewhere, but I wasn't talking about friendship - I was talking about social activities. They are not the same thing.
Perhaps this has to do with our different interests and ways of life. Socially, there is a lot to do in America - sports, movies, dancing, interest groups, etc. One can do all these things. Whether one makes friends or not is another issue.
People from other countries feel the diiference in the quality of frienship. I was told about that frequently in my first year in America. But when it comes to social activities, it is only the alpha cities of the world that have that variety.
