One of the things I've come across is, when in discussion, someone will bring up a point that is being repeated by everybody. I will then basically obliterate that point, but because the person isn't actually analyzing, they seem to think that the point they brought up somehow dismantles what I am saying.

It has taught me that people sometimes do read books, but what they don't do is examine what they are reading.
