One of the things I have done (and I do routinely) is check the back history of supposedly successful people who came from 'nothing.'

The closest I got was a very rich estate agent who had started out as a drug dealer, made a lot of money, got 'born again' became an evangelical Christian, left his massive wicked ways, and invested the proceeds in real estate. And from there it grew.

He came from 'nothing.'
