One of the first things I did when I came to Medium was block marketers like Tom Kuegler. I write ONLY FOR MONEY.I brought up my daughter on my earnings as a writer. I have been published since 1962/3.

I feel sorry for people who feel guilty because they want to earn money from their writing, and they've been told by people who are earning a lot of money (like Tom Kuegler) that they shouldn't only write for money.

Writing is a career, a job. And it confuses the hell out of me why one would write for any other reason. I think there is a lot of confusion between journaling (which is what people used to call the kind of writng that bared one's soul - privately) and actually writing articles for the general public consumption.

There is no other platform that compares with Medium. However a lot of these writers who sell writing courses and related stuff to writers have built up a sizeable platform of subscribers and they can earn from that.
