I don't dispute that the guy may have written some things that are historically not accurate. I don't think Americans study a lot of history at school.
However, I take issue with the idea that there is no point in writing something if one does not wish to discuss it. I write in order to earn a living. I do not have one bit of interest in discussing anything. I write for people who share my basic values and perspective - secular, scientifuc, socialist, progressive, humanist. Within that, there are minor deviatiins amongst my readers, and I will, if I have time, respond if someone queries what I write.
Anything longer, I do not have the energy, nor the time or inclination. I am quite happy to let people believe what they want to. And, yes, I will block them if they get unpleasant about it. This is my day job. I don't have time for bruised egoes.
Medium has changed direction many times. Thankfully, with the advent of the new CEO, he has let go the idea that has been flashed about by the previous 'leaders' - that Mefium was a safe and nurturing place for writers who support each other, and people wrote in order to foster discussion.
Thankfully, it appears to have gone back to its initial roots - a place for readers to read good copy.
I can see that in the different articles that now come up in my stream. No more self--help and 'how to write'bs. And I no longer read the crap that writers succeed because they support each other.
Writers succeef because they write something for which they have found a market. That's it. And it has nkthing to do witn writing in order to provoke discussion, debate, or bonding.
Writers generally write in order to earn a living, and readers read in order to be entertained, or because they have a strong interest in the world around them, or they want to know something.
They do not write to discuss things.
